Donor Breastmilk Fatwa

Advocacy Improves Access to Breastmilk for Vulnerable Infants

In 2023, created the first national Fatwa on donor breast milk, encouraging Muslim families to utilize donated breast milk for infants vulnerable to malnourishment. A Fatwa is a religious clarification. This decree ruled that donor breast milk was not only permissible but encouraged for infants in need. The medical community rejoiced with this ruling as it gave them more understanding of cultural needs and additional tools for shared decision-making when discussing recommendations with families.
